Yobe school attack: NSCDC takes major action to guarantee student’s safety; deploys 250 personnel to 30 schools across state

- Following the abduction of schoolgirls in Dapchi, Yobe, the NSCDC has deployed 250 personnel to 30 boarding and day secondary schools across the state

- According to the corps commandant, the move will serve as a security assurance to the students, parents and locals across the state

- The commandant also urged locals to provide relevant information on the whereabouts of the abducted schoolgirls as a means of supporting the security agencies in their task

No fewer than 250 personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Yobe Command, have been deployed to provide security in 30 boarding and day secondary schools across the state’s 17 local government areas, Daily Trust reports.

The development was made public on Wednesday, February 28, by the NSCDC commandant, Ayinla Taiye Olowo.

NAIJ.com gathers that Ayinla disclosed that the corps had taken the step in accordance with the federal government’s directive to deploy officers and men to schools in the state in order to guarantee safety of students and staffers.

He stated: "This has served as security assurance to the students, parents and locals across the state."

Ayinla also disclosed that the commandant general of the corps had ordered that desk officers on crisis management be deployed to provide the parents of the missing schoolgirls with psycho-social support; even before the federal government’s directive.

He said: "We are working together with the complaints desk set up by the state government on giving the psycho-social support to the victims of the attack."

Ayinla further appealed to the locals to provide relevant information on the whereabouts of the abducted schoolgirls as a means of supporting the security agencies in their task.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the minister of interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau asked the inspector-general of police, Ibrahim Idris and Commandant-General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Abdullahi Muhammadu to relocate to the northeast.

This was contained in a series of tweets posted by the presidency on Wednesday, February 28. According to the tweets, the security chiefs were asked to provide security to all schools in the liberated areas.
