Manchester United gaffer Jose Mourinho has slammed the club's former captain Gary Neville for flopping as a manager as a retaliation to his constant criticism.

Neville had a disastrous first spell as Valencia head coach two years ago — but that has not stopped him and other TV pundits laying into Mourinho.

Speaking ahead of his side all important clash with Liverpool today, Mourinho said: “Some of the guys with an opinion couldn’t resolve their own problems when they were managers.

“So they give opinions like they have solutions for everything but it’s not like that. They are in a position where they can give opinions about everything — sometimes I read and listen, sometimes I don’t.

“This week I was more focused on enjoying Champions League and Europa League games and preparing for my match than to be focused on opinions.”
