APC senator cries out over alleged plans by Kaduna govt to demolish his second house, despite court order

- Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi has raised an alarm over an alleged plan by the Kaduna state Government to demolish his second house

- Hunkuyi’s other property had previously been demolished on the grounds that ground rent on it has not been paid since 2010

- The senator said the second demolition is set to be carried out, despite a valid and subsisting court order

Suleiman Uthman Hunkuyi, the senator representing the Kaduna North district in the upper legislative chamber, has cried out over what he described as an attempt by the Kaduna state Government to demolish his house at No.18a Inuwa Wada Road, Unguwar Rimi, Kaduna, Daily Trust reports.

A bill had been sent to the senator’s personal residence in February by the Kaduna Geographical Information Service (KADGIS), informing him informing him of a 24-year accumulated ground rent since 1995 which stood at over N1.4 million.

In addition to that amount, Hunkuyi was also slammed with a N30 million fine.

NAIJ.com gathers that the bill was sent a few days after his other property on 11b Sambo Road, Kaduna, was demolished on grounds that the ground rent on it had not been paid since 2010.

Before the demolition exercise, the property had been used as the secretariat of a faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

In a letter dated 28-05-2018, the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) said the amount for payment was late; and as such, penalties and interest would be computed as stipulated by law. The letter was signed by the agency’s executive director, revenue operations, Ango Liman.

However, reacting to the alleged demolition plan, the senator pointed out via his Twitter handle, that the matter is still pending in the High Court of Justice, Kaduna.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that Governor Nasir El-Rufai reacted to the allegation that he led a team of people to demolish a secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) belonging to a faction under the leadership of Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi.

The governor said the demolition duly followed the law of the state; and that the idea that the building was demolished as a form of political move was wrong.

He also added that Senator Hunkuyi's claim that he (El-rufai) personally led a team to demolish the building was not only fabricated but laughable.
