Most times we see Boko Haram terrorists stealing almost 500 cows - 20-year-old Maiduguri hunter reveals activities of insurgents

A young man (20 years) in Maiduguri, Borno state capital, whose name was left unmentioned, has revealed how Boko Haram terrorists, armed with high-profile ammunition, steal cattle from villagers in nearby towns, making away with 500 - 1,000 cows in their operations.

An unnamed 20-year-old man in Maiduguri, Borno state capital, as reported by an Instagram subscriber who goes by the name bistofborno, has revealed that he and some other natives in his town observe the activities of Boko Haram members.

The young hunter, giving an insight into his family life said that he has been a hunter for 15 years from age year, going about in forests with his father in search of animals.

He further said that most times from blind spots on trees, he and some of his colleagues watch how Boko Haram terrorists steal almost 500 cows from poor villagers in neighbouring towns. He said that the insurgents use sophisticated guns like AK 47 in carrying out their operations.

In his narrative, the young man said: "I am 20 years old and have been a hunter for 15 years. Since age 5, I’ve followed my father everywhere he went as a hunter.

"Now that I am old enough I venture out on my own with other hunters and we patrol day and night in neighboring towns around Maiduguri. Unfortunately our own village is too dangerous to infiltrate. During patrols we climb trees to sit and wait for the insurgents.

"Most times we see them passing with herds of cattle they have stolen from villagers. Yesterday it was 30 cows but in the past it’s been almost 500-1000 cows they steal from poor people in rural communities.

"If they’ve AK47s it is easy for them to steal whatever they want. I don’t have any fear really. This is all I’ve done my whole life; because this, protecting people for Allah’s sake. I have put my trust in God. I pray for good outcomes."

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported that troops in Borno killed five Boko Haram insurgents and captured a top commander of the group in the ongoing operation in Sambisa Forest and the Lake Chad basin.

The deputy director, army public relations of operation Lafiya Dole, Onyeama Nwachukwu, in a statement in Maiduguri, said troops also rescued three civilians, recovered vehicles and high calibre ammunition in various operations.
