Spain’s defender Sergio Ramos believes Argentina’s legend Diego Maradona belongs to the past and cannot be compared with Barcelona’s playmaker Lionel Messi, reports suggest.
The Los Blancos defender, who is furious with Maradona following his recent utterances, which also saw the former World Cup winner compare Ramos with Atletico Madrid’s Diego Godin.

Responding to the 57-year-old comments on Wednesday, moments after Spain’s La Roja’s 1-0 win over Iran at the ongoing 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia, the Real Madrid star insisted that his Nou Camp rival was by far a preferred choice to Maradona any day.
"In Argentina they know that Maradona is light years away from the best Argentine player in history which, for me, is Lionel Messi,” he stressed.

Already, Spain’s victory over Iran lifted the La Roja as joint-leaders of Group B with Portugal with one fixture yet to be decided in the group, but the hard tackling defender was in positive mood to talk about their performance in the ongoing global football fiesta.
"They [Iran] went out to waste time, whereas we like to win in a different way," he noted, even as he was quick to add.

"We leave happy. We’ve taken another step forward and now we have to try to top our group, it’s our objective.
"I still think we can improve in all aspects."
