Osun PDP under fire as Christian groups condemn primary, fingers Governor Seriake (read full statement)

- Some Christian associations in Osun have risen against what they described as a governorship primary massively flawed by rigging and manipulation

- The religious groups in a statement on Monday, July 30, said that unless the errors are amended, the state may find things difficult during the approaching governorship polls

- They frowned at Governor Dickson Seriake's refusal to recount Senator Ademola Adeleke's votes that led to his emergence as the winner of the primary

Not less than six Christian groups in Osun have referred to the recent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)'s governorship primary as a fraudulent affair and therefore urged the party to make amends.

The groups in a joint statement issued in Osogbo, on Monday, July 30, said that except justice is done, the PDP may find it difficult to excel in the forthcoming gubernatorial polls, Vanguard reports.

Heads of the group that signed the statement were Nigeria Prays, Osun state chapter, Michael Adebomi; Nehemiah Initiative for Nation Building, Tunji Ayorinde; Christian Initiative for Nation Building, Olawole Oladapo; Christian Leadership Mobilisation Initiative International, Theophilus Ayodeji; Movement for Positive Change, Walter Aworanti; and Gospel Pushers Association, Pastor Olatunde Babalola.

The statement partly read: “As major stakeholders in good governance, we need to bring to the notice of all that we conscientiously monitored all the primaries of all the political parties in Osun State.

"Reports were received from our field officers and we ensured we kept same for posterity sake. While commending all the political parties for painstakingly conducting their primaries, we observed that the process that led to the emergence of the PDP governorship candidate was flawed, openly manipulated, and was rigged in favour of a particular person.

“Apart from reports that fake delegates were allowed to vote during the primary and other anti-democratic practices, which characterized the exercise which took place at GMT Hotel in Osogbo, one major item we wish to point out was Governor Dickson’s blatant refusal to allow recount of Senator Adeleke’s vote whereas when the votes of two other contestants were recounted, errors were detected and corrected.”

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported that Akin Ogunbiyi, Osun state PDP governorship aspirant, had petitioned the party’s leadership, alleging the rigging of the party’s primary in favour of Adeleke.

NAIJ.com gathered that Ogunbiyi who rejected the poll’s result which declared the serving senator winner of the Osun state PDP governorship primary insisted that it was rigged in Adeleke’s favour.
