- Alexis Sanchez scored once and assisted another as Manchester United defeated Real Madrid 2-1
- Ander Herrera was also on target for the Red Devils
- Karim Benzema scored the solitary goal for the European Champions
EPL giants Manchester United ended their frosty US tour on a winning note after defeating European champions Real Madrid 2-1 in a thrilling preseason friendly played at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium on Tuesday night, July 31.
United star goalkeeper David De Gea earned a recall to the squad during the clash, with new-signing Fred being handed his first start by Jose Mourinho.
The Premier League side jilted an early chance inside five minutes of play when Alexis Sanchez picked out Juan Mata with a delightful pass but the Spaniard was unable to convert from close range.
However, Sanchez opened the scoring for the Red Devils in 13 minutes later, scoring his second goal of the preseason as he continued with his fine form.
Ander Herrera doubled the lead in the 27th minute, who ripped a low shot past the helpless Casilla after being set up Sanchez.
Real pulled a goal back via star forward Karim Benzema just before the half-time break, with the Frenchman scoring from a superb buildup.
Upon the resumption of the second-half, United held out for a morale-boosting win as they marched to victory after a difficult preseason that was riddled with injuries and Mourinho’s downbeat mood.
Meanwhile, this was Real's first match since Cristiano Ronaldo swapped the Champions League holders for Juventus in a sensational summer transfer.
After the match, Mourinho and his players flew out of Miami to Manchester and will have Thursday off before resuming their pre-season preparation, which they will crown with a friendly away to Bayern Munich on Sunday, August 5.
