Major loss for Governor Okowa as he loses 2 aides, 5000 party members to APC

It was a major loss for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta state on Sunday, August 26, as two aides of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa lost two of his aides and about 5000 party members to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The two aides who defected are the special assistant to the governor on youth and community development, Lucky Arumare, and the special assistant on women mobilisation, Uyoyou Edhekpo.

Punch reports that the defectors promised to team up with other APC leaders to “rescue the state from the grips of the PDP.”

They reportedly accused the administration of Okowa of lacking the foresight to develop the state.

It was learnt that they were received at the official declaration of the former chairman of the Delta state board of internal revenue, Thomas Joel-Onowakpo, for the House of Representatives.

The report added that the factional chairman of the APC, Jones Erue, said the party expected more people from the PDP.

According to Erue, 2019 signifies end of the road for PDP-led government in the state as he added that Deltans are earnestly waiting for 2019 to end the current ‘political dynasty’.

Erue described Joel-Onowakpo as “the best man to liberate the people of Isoko from the grip of House of Representatives Minority leader, Leo Ogor, who has occupied the seat for about 16 years.
