Man hit by bullet fired by a SARS official after attending sallah fest

It goes without saying that a large number of the Nigerian populace have suffered in the hands of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) officials, a body meant to protect the lives and property of the citizens. However, with the negative news that has been trailing the organisation, it seems they did not get the memo as to what their responsibilities are.

As gathered by NAIJ.com, the life of a young man has been cut short by a SARS operative. A young man identified as Ayotunde Babatunde Nafiu, was hit by a stray bullet fired by a SARS official identified as Gbadamosi Lukman.

According to reports, the deceased was waiting at a junction to board a bike after attending an annual sallah fest at Ajangbala, in Iwo, Osun state, when he was hit by the bullet. It was also reported that the SARS operatives also stormed the venue of the event and were shooting sporadically, till they fled the scene.

In reaction to the series of events, angry youths stormed the Iwo Area Police Command and set buildings ablaze. It was gathered that the Iwo Area Police Command also houses the SARS office.

A traditional ruler, identified as Oba Akanbi also intervened in the issue and tried to make peace, but the youths were not having it.

The deceased, Ayotunde Babatunde Nafiu, was a student of the Polytechnic Iree.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com recently reported the news that the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo has directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, to immediately overhaul the management and activities of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

NAIJ.com reported that the personal assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on new media, Bashir Ahmad, made it known in a tweet on Tuesday, August 14.

He said: "Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, orders immediate overhaul of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS)."
