The 71-year-old has been brought in to rescue Chelsea on two occasions - after Luiz Felipe Scolari was sacked in 2009 and Jose Mourinho in 2015.
His first job in international management came in 1994 with his home nation where he helped them reach the quarter-finals of the World Cup in France but was beaten by Brazil on penalties.
His home nation also lost to the same opponents in the semi-finals of the France 98' edition and returned to Holland in 2014.
Hiddink's last managerial job was at Chelsea in 2015 when Mourinho was sacked in his second spell at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich had called on the Dutchman again after he won the FA Cup as interim boss in his first stay at the west London club.
