Security operatives allegedly chase Benue Assembly clerk and others out of office

- Clerk of the Benue state House of Assembly, Dr Toryese Angenor, alleged that he was chased out of the office by security operatives

- The clerk said he was chased out of office few hours after he resumed for duty

- Benue state commissioner of police was however unable to react to the development as his phone did not go through

Dr Toryese Angenor, clerk of the Benue state House of Assembly has alleged that he was chased of his office alongside other officials of the Assembly by heavily-armed security operatives on Tuesday, July 31.

He who disclosed this in Makurdi alleged that he was ordered out of office by security men, two hours after he resumed for duty on Tuesday, Punch reports.

“As I talk to you now, the police officers are still there and you can’t see any (members of) staff in the Assembly complex because l was chased out of my office.

“They told us that the commissioner of police had ordered them to tell us to leave the complex. No reason was given and no definite time was given to us to come back.

“The implication of this is that we were not allowed to do our job and that is going to impede the work of the legislature and it is going to affect all the people of Benue.

“We are calling on the commander-in-chief to direct the IGP to tell the commissioner of police, Benue state Command to withdraw his men from the premises of the Benue state House of Assembly so that staff can do their work unhindered,” he said.

The news outlet also reported that Col. Paul Hemba, security adviser to the governor corroborated the account given by the clerk.

“I got the information about the chasing away of civil servants and l called the commissioner of police. I spoke with him awhile ago and he confirmed it," Hemba added.

It was also reported that efforts to get reaction from the new commissioner of police in the state, Gwana Bensan, was not successful as his phone did not go through.

NAIJ.com had reported that the Middle Belt Forum alleged that there are plans by the federal government to repeal the anti-grazing law bill in Benue state.

MBF on Tuesday, July 31, said also accused the federal government of a conspiracy to impeach the Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom, with a view to repealing the anti-open-grazing law in operation in the state.
