Italian League champions Juventus kicked off their UEFA Champions League campaign on a winning note following their 2-0 victory over Valentia at the Estadio Mestalla on Wednesday night.

Miralem Pjanic opened scoring for the visitors through the spot kick in the 45th minute after Daniel Parejo conceded a penalty for dangerous play against Joao Cancelo.

Barely six minutes after after the resumption of the second half, Pjanic doubled his side via penalty after Jeison Murillo was booked for pushing Leonardo Bonucci in the danger zone.

The visitors got the game off to an exciting start they attacked the home team, but the hosts seemed to have a game plan to keep Cristiano Ronaldo off from finding the back of the net.

He got a chance to put the Old Lady ahead in the 9th minute of the game but his shot was deflected to win a corner for the away side.

Massimiliano Allegri's men continued to push forward in search of their first of the game, but instead, Portuguese star Ronaldo was red carded for an offence in Valencia's 18 yard box in the 29th minute.

And after the 33-year-old was sent off by German referee Felix Brych, possession turned the way of Valencia as they made a couple of efforts trying to draw the first blood.

However, their audacity forced them to concede a penalty on the dot of half time and Bosnia international perfectly put the ball behind the net.

Meanwhile, despite playing one down for about 60 minutes of the game, Juventus never stopped attacking as the manager substituted Pjanic for Douglas Costa.

Valencia manager Marcelino Garcia also made some tactical substitution to effect some change in the game but Juve held on to their lead into the late game.

Russian attacker Denis Cheryshev came on for Ruben Vezo in the 57th minute, while Michy Batshuayi made way for Kevin Gameiro, but all these meant nothing as all the chances they created couldn't be converted.

The Italian champions will host Swiss side Young Boys in their next group game at the Allianz Arena on October 2 as they currently rank second on Group H table behind Manchester United - but on the same points.

The Red Devils defeated the whipping team of the group Young Boys 3-0 at the Stade de Suisse Wankdorf.
