Angry Nigerian filmmaker calls DJ Cuppy tone deaf over PVC drama

- DJ Cuppy has been described as tone deaf by an angry Nigerian woman

- This was in relation to the incident in which she jumped the queue to get her PVC

- The lady said she was disappointed at the disc jockey’s reaction to the issue

To be tone deaf is to not be able to differentiate sounds or musical pitches in an accurate manner. A Nigerian lady has used this phrase in describing female artist DJ Cuppy.

The woman identified as Ifeoma Chukwuogo had recently narrated an experience she had with DJ Cuppy in the picture. According to the woman who took to Twitter to share her encounter, the female disc jockey had come to an Independent National Electoral Commission centre to obtain her permanent voter’s card (PVC).

Not surprisingly, there were a lot of people on the queue including the aggrieved woman. However, DJ Cuppy was said to have gallantly walked past the long row of people who had been waiting for as long as 4 hours to register for their PVC.

This Nigerian lady who happens to be a filmmaker then went on to say that the rich daughter of Femi Otedola alongside her entourage went into the office where the registration was taking place and did hers effortlessly without considering the remaining people.

Here are the details below:

"Highly privileged people are rarely concerned with life outside their bubble. Y/day I stood for 4.5 hrs trying to get my PVC, got there at 7, left at 11.30. Cuppy strolled in at 10.30 with her entourage and mopol, walked past all of us on the queue and went straight into the thumbprint and registration room.

I was standing right outside the door just about to go in when this happened. Now, many of us were VERY frustrated at the whole registration affair. A man beside me just about to go in had been there since 4am or so. Of course, folks were muttering under their breaths about the unfairness. She’s not a diplomat/politician, she’s just wealthy."

The lady specifically made it clear that the female artist should have opted for a private registration if she couldn’t endure the hustle and she also should have kept the camera out of the entire proceedings:

"If you don’t want to join us like cattle standing for hrs getting harassed by officials, arrange for a private registration at a location of your choice. There’s nothing wrong with that. Companies and residential estate arrange for INEC officials to come register their staff/residents for convenience sake. But I’m guessing there was the PR aspect of it too because her handlers photographed it. No crime in that. She’s an influencer."

According to the Nigerian filmmaker, what made her even more angry was the fact that despite the grumbles and vehement protest from the people on the queue, DJ Cuppy kept laughing and showing a deep disinterest to the plight of those who had been left to continue their wait.

This fact was what made the woman call the daughter of one of Nigeria’s richest men tone deaf:

"What made me realize how tone-deaf she might be was how despite the obvious frustration from people’s facial expressions, and me actually loudly telling an INEC official in her presence that it was unfair to do that at our expense as we all have places to be as well is that she was smiling and chuckling through it all.

I was looking straight at her as I was saying these things, not even in a combative manner, more in a “she/you guys should be doing better, leading by example” type stuff. It was interesting (and annoying) to watch."

For her, although Cuppy might be an amazing person with an interesting public personality, the inability to identify with people’s sufferings at the particular moment she needed meant she was as good as being tone deaf.
