Benue: Herdsmen killed 50 security operatives in 8 months - Ortom

- Governor Samuel Ortom claimed militia herdsmen have killed 50 security operatives in 8 month

- The governor noted that some security agents were killed recently by the marauders

- However, he added that the presence of Operation Whirl Stroke has subdued the militia herdsmen

Governor Samuel Ortom on Friday, August 31, claimed that militia herdsmen in Benue state have killed no less than fifty security operatives in various attacks launched in the state between January to August 2018.

Ortom, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, said that attacks on Benue communities by militia herdsmen had only subsided due to the presence of Operation Whirl Stroke, noting that some security agents were killed recently by the marauders.

The Punch reports that the governor disclosed this at Chihichan, Mbakume, Gwer-East Local Government Area of the state during the burial of late David Upuu, the elder brother of the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Internal Affairs, Mr. Boniface Nyaakor.

He said: “Those plotting evil against this administration would always come behind, because l know that prayers from the church had helped in saving democracy from its enemies in the state.

“From January to August 2018, close to 50 security operatives had fallen prey to activities of militia herdsmen.”

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com earlier reported that Governor Ortom said what caused a political turbulence in the state is that he was fighting for his people and as well looking for justice, equity and fairness.

Ortom noted that when he came to power in 2015, the killings in state and other parts of Nigeria had subsisted for several years and branded to be called herdsmen-farmers clashes.
