The leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth (OYC) has demanded for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to zone its vice-president slot to the southeast if it wants to enjoy the support of people from the region.

Vanguard reports that the youth wing of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo social-cultural group made the demand on Thursday, September 20, after its meeting in Abakaliki where issues affecting the political future of Ndigbo in the 2019 general elections were discussed.

The group in a statement accused the PDP leadership caucus led by Prince Uche Secondus of planning to deny the southeast the vice presidential slot in the forthcoming PDP primaries.

It threatened to mobilise Igbo youths for the All Progressives Confess (APC) if the PDP fails to zone the vice president to another region after the primaries.

“This is our final warning to PDP regarding the 2019 presidential election. If there is any attempt to zone vice president to another zone after the primaries, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide will mobilise Igbo youths for APC where we have nothing to lose. PDP should make hay while the sun still shines.” the statement read in part.

“OYC insists that the leadership of PDP led by Prince Uche Secondus is planning to deny Igbos the vice presidential slot when the party holds her presidential primaries early October 2018 in Port Harcourt Rivers State.

“Prince Uche Secondus had tactically avoided addressing the issue of denying South East the position of vice president after the upcoming presidential primaries because of the fear of the cabal that insists that South West vice presidency is better than Southeast vice president because of reasons best known to them.”

Meanwhile, Adams Oshiomhole, national chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC), has inaugurated a high-level legislative screening and appeals committee for the party’s 386 Senate, and 1,587 House of Representatives aspirants.

Oserheimen Osunbor, former Edo governor, Timipre Sylva, Ahmad Sani Yerima, Ken Nnamani, Sharon Ikeazor, Bukar Abba Ibrahim, and Senator Olorunnimbe Mamora are among heads of the committees which were inaugurated on Thursday, September 20, in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that no fewer than 15 APC state governors seeking re-election in 2019 were drilled by the APC Screening committee ahead of its party primaries.
