Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho says the Red Devils are lacking in quality when compared with rivals Manchester City and Liverpool.

According to a UK Sun report the Portuguese stressed that the pair of Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp and their squads are the best entertainers of the Premier League, he lacks special players to challenge them making it pretty tough to beat them at their own game — especially in defence.

The former Real Madrid coach’s inability to bring in highly-rated centre-back in the summer remains a talking point as had played some players out of position.

At the last count Mourinho played midfielder Ander Herrera as a back three in Monday’s 3-0 bashing by Tottenham.

And the respected football tactician says he had been badly let down after submitting his potential summer transfer targets.

“They are what they are and we are what we are.

“We try. The teams that are really, really good offensively are the teams that are very, very solid from the back.

“Other teams that have the offensive mentality must be ultra-confident,” noted the United boss.

Speaking further, Mourinho highlighted the Red Devils display during the first stanza against Tottenham, as an example of how intends setting up side to be more offensive.

However, he was quick to note that the tactics could be counter-productive because of the quality of squad members at his disposal. “In this match we were really positive and really strong.

“The opponent, a very good opponent, felt that and felt they were really in trouble. But two defensive mistakes in five minutes lost the game for us.

“It’s a process and it’s a process that has risks, especially if you make defensive mistakes that break that dynamic,” he added.

Interestingly, the Red Devils underfire manager will be in for more pressure if they suffer a third consecutive defeat at Burnley today, September 2, 2018 despite words of assurances from the club’s chieftains.
