The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned that any media organisation that declares election results of the Osun governorship poll before the official results are released risk being shutdown.
NAIJ.com reports that the Osun state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Olusegun Agbaje, gave the warning on Friday, September 21, when declaring the commission's readiness for the Saturday, September 22 election.
"Any media organisation that declares election results before INEC official declaration will risk being shut down and the owner would be prosecuted," he said.
The REC stated that INEC has not banned the use of phones during the election, noting that it will only prevent the electorate from bringing their phones to the cubicles where they would vote.

"INEC did not place a ban on phones and camera devices at the polling units, what INEC said is that voters should not carry their phones or any other camera devices into the voting cubicles where the voters will mark the ballot to safe guard the secrecy of the ballot," Agbaje said.
He dismissed the insinuation that INEC has been bought by a particular party, describing it as untrue and figment of imagination of the peddlers of rumour.
Agbaje said that the commission's card readers were not meant to favour any political party as being speculated.

He warned political parties against inducing the electorate with money, adding that the commission would do what it can to ensure the issue of vote buying is prevented during the poll.

"The politicians must not induce voters with money and anybody caught with this act will be seriously dealt with according to the law. and he/she will be prosecuted."
The REC said the commission had held stakeholders' meeting with people of the state on how the election would be violence free and devoid of any malpractices.
He said the security personnel are ready to forestall any possible breakdown of law and order in all nooks and crannies of the state before, during and after the election.
The official said the commission has no plan to give the uncollected PVCs to any political political party, noting that uncollected PVC's are being kept in the INEC strong room at the state office.
Meanwhile, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, a former governor of Osun, has reportedly predicted that the governorship election slated for Saturday, September 22, in the state would be won by Fatai Ajibade, the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Oyinlola reportedly said Ajibade was the most qualified candidate to succeed the present Governor Rauf Aregbesola because he has untainted political record and unblemished integrity.
The Punch reports that Oyinlola spoke at the ADC rally in Osogbo, the capital of Osun, where the governorship candidate was presented to the supporters of the party.
