Trouble as Leah Sharibu’s mother, others sue FG, claim N500 million damages

- She also made a claim of N500 million as compensation for the indignities and human deprivations suffered by Leah since her abduction

- Joined in the suit are the inspector general of police and the attorney general of the federation

The mother to Leah Sharibu, one of the 110 abducted female students of Government Girls’ Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe state remaining in custody of the Boko Haram terrorist group has filed a suit against the Nigerian government.

Mrs Rebeeca in the suit jointly filed with Daniel David Kadzai and a United States-based Lift-Up-Now Incorporation, a non governmental organisation accused the federal government of failing in their statutory responsibilities to protect and further rescue Leah since her abduction on February 19.

The suit filed before a Federal High Court in Lagos state also demanded a damage of N500 million as compensation for the indignities and human deprivations suffered by Leah since her abduction.

Punch reports that a copy of also showed that the inspector general of police and the attorney general of the federation were joined in the suit dated September 19, 2018, with no FCH/L/cs/1528/18.

The suit noted that the defendants were joined over their failure to ensure the release of Leah and for failing in their statutory responsibilities.

Among the reliefs sought by the plaintiffs is an order of the court to direct and mandate the defendants to secure the immediate and unconditional release of Leah from the custody of her captors.

The plaintiffs also prayed the court for an order compelling the defendants to employ every means in securing her release.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, September 18, vowed to do everything possible to ensure Leah Sharibu.

President Buhari said: “We will continue to do everything possible to ensure the safe return of all of our people held by Boko Haram. This is a vow we intend to fully keep. I appeal to our international partners and friends to continue to support us, even as we redouble our efforts."

“In the last 3 years the efforts of our gallant military and intelligence agencies have resulted in the freeing of thousands of hostages, including some of the Chibok Girls and most of the Dapchi Girls. Let me again assure that no one - including Leah Sharibu - will be left behind," the president added.
