In efforts to to present a coalition presidential candidate for the 2019 presidential election, leaders of the 42 political parties under the auspices of Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) met in Abuja on Tuesday, October 16.
Punch reports that they were said to have agreed that the presidential candidates of all the political parties that emerged at individual primaries would undergo screening.
The meeting was reportedly to have been held behind closed doors at the Musa Yar’Adua Conference Centre.
It was reported that they agreed that all the parties would support any candidate picked for the election in efforts to chase out the All Progressives Congress-led administration.

The meeting, according to the news medium was chaired by the chairman of the CUPP steering committee, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola.
The meeting also had in attendance the national chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Chief Olu Falae; national Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus; R-APC Chairman, Mr Buba Galadima, Alhaji Tafawa Belewa, leader of the national intervention movement,
Former governor of Cross River dtate, Liyel Imoke all chairmen of the over 40 political parties involved in the coalition were reported to be present.
“The meeting agreed to rescue the country from the gradual drift to a state of economic hopelessness and reign of impunity from the APC.”
“At the meeting, a decision was taken to start the process that will lead to the eventual selection of the consensus candidate for the major opposition parties in Nigeria.
“The CUPP chieftains pledged their readiness and commitment to forge a common front to chase out the incompetent APC administration,” spokesman for the CUPP, Mr Ikenga Ugochinyere was quoted to have said.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the political group Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) have condemned the travel ban slapped on 50 high-profile Nigerians by President Muhammadu Buhari.
In separate statements released on Saturday, October 13 shortly after Presidency announced the bans through spokesman Garba Shehu, PDP and CUPP expressed worries over the move.
Nigerian Tribune reports that the PDP statement signed by its national spokesman Kola Ologbondiyan accused the APC of trying to intimidate the opposition ahead of 2019.
