After court ruling against APC, new political parties reportedly taking over Zamfara state ahead of 2019

Reports indicate that new political parties are currently taking over Zamfara following the fallout of the protracted crises in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over the primary elections across the state recently.

Daily Trust reports that the new political parties are gaining prominence in the state with some followerships.

The report said the two major party in the state had been the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and it was difficult to hear anything about the other political organizations.

“However, with recent developments, some of the parties recently registered by INEC had opened offices in Gusau, the state capital and in other major towns,” the report said.

The report adds that the political parties also conducted primaries for various offices, including producing governorship candidates ahead of 2019.

The report added that the ADC had produced Badamasi Bello as its gubernatorial candidate; NCP had Muhammed Bala; Surajo Ibrahim had emerged the gubernatorial candidate of Accord Party; NUP had produced Alhaji Yusuf Sadiq PDM had Ahmed Ibrahim and NNPP had elected Isiyaku A Tunau as its candidate.

It is learnt that while some of the candidates and their parties have the resources to execute their campaigns for various office, others would be ‘consumed’ by aggrieved aspirants from the APC and PDP.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday, October 15, said it stands by its statement that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will not field candidates for the 2019 general elections in Zamafa.

Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of INEC, stated this on the sideline of the opening of a two-day validation workshop in Abuja.

However, the All Progressives Congress (APC) said it would field candidates for all elective positions in Zamfara in the 2019 general elections, despite its alleged disqualification by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Zamfara state governor, Abdulaziz Yari, also revealed that he is under strong pressure to leave the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) with his supporters.
