Flooding: NEMA names 12 worst affected states (see list)

12 states along the Rivers Niger and Benue have been declared by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) as the worst affected by flood disasters this year, while other states are being monitored.

The disclosure was made by the director general of the agency, Engr Mustapha Maihaja, Daily Trust reports.

NAIJ.com gathers that the states affected are:

1. Benue

2. Kogi

3. Niger

4. Kwara

5. Anambra

6. Delta

7. Bayelsa

8. Rivers

9. Adamawa

10. Edo

11. Kebbi

12. Taraba

Maihaja also disclosed that casualties have been recorded in several Nigerian states, as a result of the heavy rains which caused the Rivers Niger and Benue to overflow.

Recall that NAIJ.com previously reported that the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) declared a ‘national disaster’ in Kogi, Anambra, Delta and Niger, following high levels of flooding in the states.

Mustapha Maihaja, NEMA director-general, made the declaration during an assessment visit to River Niger on Monday, September 17, in Lokoja.
