JUST IN: Fayose spends night in EFCC custody, denies allegations, asks to be taken to court

- Ex-governor Ayodele Fayose spent his night in EFCC custody on Tuesday, October 16

- Fayose denied all the corruption allegation levied against him

- He demanded to be taken to court by the anti graft agency

Ayodele Fayose, the former governor of Ekiti state, was reported to have, spent his first day out of office on Tuesday, October 16, in the detention cell of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja.

Fayose was taken into the agency's custody after his dramatic arrival at the commission's office on Tuesday, The Nation reports.

It is expected that he will be cross-questioned on his receipt the sum of N1.3 billion from the Office of the former National Security Adviser (ONSA) and $5.377million.

The anti graft agency insisted that the money which amounted to N4.6 billion was part of the funds allegedly stolen from defence vote.

According to reports, Fayose denied all the allegations against him, asking the agency to take him to court.

A source in EFCC said: “He made a statement where he denied all the allegations and asked the commission to take him to court. So far, he has not responded to how he came about N1.3 billion and $5.377million from ONSA. He has more issues to clarify; we are going to detain him.”

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported that the EFCC operatives were already trailing Fayose to prevent his alleged escape bid. Barely 24 hours to Fayose’s exit, the anti-graft agency’s operatives were on Sunday, October 14, at Akure airport, when the governor and his wife boarded a flight to Abuja.

NAIJ.com gathered that another set of operatives closed up on the governor immediately he landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
