The 58th Independence Day interdenominational church service held at the National Christian Centre in Abuja on Sunday, September 30.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and his wife Dolapo attended the service. Also in attendance were former head of state, Rt. General Yakubu Gowon; secretary to the government of the federation, Boss Mustapha; chief justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen; and others.
Justice Onnoghen read the First Bible Reading from the book of Exodus 17:8-13, while Gowon read the Second Reading from 1 Corinthians 12: 4-18.

Pastor Williams Kumuyi, General Superintendent, Deeper Life Ministry, delivered the sermon titled: “Harnessing Our Diversity for National Development’’.
Meanwhile, the speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, was absent at the interdenominational church service.
According to the programme of the event, Dogara had earlier been picked to read the service’s second lesson from 1 Corinthians 12:4-18.
NAIJ.com earlier reported that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Sunday, September 30, prayed for Nigeria and called for God’s blessings for the nation and its citizens. He made these supplications at an Interdenominational Church Service held at the National Christian Centre, Abuja as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 58th Independence celebration.
The vice president, who is also a pastor, said that God deserved praises for preserving Nigerians to witness another anniversary of their great nation.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has pledged to continue to work tirelessly to promote, protect and preserve a united, peaceful, prosperous and secure Nigeria, where all, irrespective of background, can aspire to succeed.
The president gave the assurance in his nationwide broadcast to mark the nation’s 58th Independence Anniversary in Abuja on Monday, October 1.
