PDP presidential campaign council delayed by Atiku's Dubai trip

- There are reports that the absence of the PDP's presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the country is delaying the party's composition of its campaign council

- It has been confirmed that Atiku is presently on a trip to Dubai

- However, Atiku approved the selection of some members of the council before he embarked on his trip

The trip by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)'s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to Dubai has been said to be responsible for the delay in the opposition's composition of its campaign council.

Yet, some members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party on Tuesday, October 16, said that Atiku in conjunction with the party's national leadership, approved the selection of some members of the council before he embarked on his trip, Punch reports.

Moreover, Kola Ologbondiyan, the national publicity secretary of the PDP, confirmed Atiku's position on the development.

Ologbondiyan said: “The former Vice President approved the list we just released on the composition of members of the campaign council. We would work on others when he returns to the country.”

Before now, Ologbondiyan, in a statement, named the president of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, as the director general of the Atiku Abubakar presidential campaign organisation. Ologbondiyan also listed some zonal coordinators.

The coordinators are the governor of Sokoto state, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, (north-west); governor of Gombe state, Ibrahim Dankwambo, (north-east); governor of Benue state, Dr Samuel Ortom, (north-central); Governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike, (south-south); former governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose, (south-west); and the governor of Ebonyi state, Dave Umahi for the south-east.

Others are a former minister of special duties and inter-governmental relations, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), who was named as the chairman, legal matters, while the governor of Akwa Ibom state, Emmanuel Udom, is the chairman, fund raising committee.

Ologbondiyan added that the NWC would make further announcements on the composition and structure of the PDP presidential campaign, in due course.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported that the PDP had appointed Saraki as the director general of its presidential campaign council ahead of 2019 general elections.

Ologbodiyan, made this known in his official twitter handle, @OfficialKolaO, on Tuesday night, October 15.

The tweet read: “PDP names the president of the Senate, Bukola Saraki as director general Atiku presidential Campaign Council.

“HE Tambuwal is zonal coordinator for north west. Dankwambo is zonal coordinator for north east. Ortom Samuel is the zonal coordinator for north central.”
