Temptations have always been and will be a part of our lives. Whether we like it or not, we face them every day. Why do temptations come? They turn up in order to make us stronger in our faith and spirit. If we had never had to resist temptations, we would have never known how strong we are in belief. Let us talk about the most efficient ways to overcome temptations as a Christian.
What is temptation?
In a general sense, temptation is a desire for something that is not good for you or that is forbidden.
For Christians, temptation is considered as a procedure of testing a person's ability to choose good over evil. Temptations are like an indicator that reveals our best or worst traits. We need to know who we are. The Bible teaches us how to fight temptations and make the right choice. Overcoming temptations gives us confidence that we are able to recognize our inclinations to sin and resist it.
The nature of temptation may be very different. We often think that temptation is all about stealing, lying, murder or adultery. But more often than not, we might find ourselves feeling impatient, greedy, envious. These are sins even though we consider them to be minor sins or slight faults. Christians have to pass various trials, both big and small, to improve our faiths and lead a holy life.
There is a big difference between a sin and temptation. Temptation cannot be considered as a sin until it is done. If a person resists temptation, it is not a sin.
Often temptation urges people to sin without thinking about the consequences. Here are some ways to overcome temptation and strengthen your self-control.
