Governor El-Rufai sets up peace commission to tackle ethnic clashes in Kaduna state (photos)

- The governor also thanks other members of the commission including Priscilla Ankut, the executive vice chairman of the peace commission

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state has inaugurated the Kaduna state peace commission in a bid to end violent conflicts that has persisted in the state.

During the inauguration of the commission on Thursday, November 2, El-Rufai said the peace commission will help drive the commitment towards sustained peace and harmony.

The governor thanked Reverend Josiah Idowu-Fearon, former Anglican Bishop of Kaduna, for accepting to chair the peace commission.

He also thanked Priscilla Ankut, for accepting to serve as the executive vice chairman of the commission, and Saleh Basayi Momale, Hajiya Khadija Hawaja Gambo for agreeing to work as permanent commissioners.

Meanwhile, 2000 women in Benue state have protested in Makurdi over alleged planned invasion of some Fulani herdsmen into part of the state.

The women’s protest is believed to be as a result of the perceived disaffection of the herdsmen over the beginning of the implementation of the anti-open grazing law which kicked off on Wednesday, November 1.

NAIJ.com had reported that the governor of Benue state, Samuel Ortom, on Wednesday, November 1, said he was committed to heading to the International Criminal Court to protect the people of state from herdsmen attacks.

Ortom, while addressing thousands of Benue people including youths and non-indigenes resident in the state under the aegis of Street Movement Against Ravages in Benue, said he will not hesitate to take legal action against herdsmen in the state.
