The candidate of the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) in the Anambra governorship election, Godwin Ezeemo, has finally been able to cast his vote with his wife at their polling unit, Umuchu Ward 001, polling unit 001.
They were able to cast their votes after a five-hour delay in the arrival of election materials.
The Punch reports that Ezeemo accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of deliberately disenfranchising the electorate in his ward.
“The INEC accepted the responsibility of ensuring a free, fair and credible election, but with the way things went in this ward, it is obvious they are not sincere.
“I do not blame my opponents for anything, but the INEC,” Ezeemo said.
The report said the officials were earlier taken to a wrong centre and had started registering voters for the exercise before they realised the error around 12 noon.
They then traced their way to the right venue in the afternoon of Saturday, November 18.
It was learnt that by the time they arrived, many of the electorate had left the supposed venue of the exercise.
“Those that remained till the arrival of the INEC officials said they would not vote until the INEC officials emptied the ballot box of the ballot papers found in it and that they be allowed to continue casting their votes even after 2pm.
“This was done and the voting process commenced,” one of the voters said.
