Sanchez, Mustafi score as Arsenal defeat Tottenham in North London derby

A pair of first half goals from the returning Shkodran Mustafi and Alexis Sanchez gave Arsenal a 2 - 0 win Tottenham in the North London derby on Saturday, November 18.

The win was the Gunner's first over Spurs in three years in the league since Mauricio Pochettino took over the Lily whites.

Pochettino elected to start an unfit Harry Kane but that did not matter as the Englishman forced Petr Cech into a smart save midway through the first half.

The Gunners took the lead through Mustafi who nodded in Ozil's freekick from the right. The goal came in controversial circumstances however as the freekick that led to the goal was a soft one.

Alexis Sanchez was deemed to have been pulled back by Davidson Sanchez although replys showed the referee was wrong. Mustafi would also score from a slightly offside position.

Five munites later Alexis Sanchez doubled with a close range effort after putting Alexandre Lacazette's pass under control.

In the second half, the Gunners took a counter-attcking approach and could have scored on multiple occasions.

Hector Bellerin guilty of failing to convert from Ozil's pass while Hugo Lloris twice denied Sanchez.

Petr Cech kept the scores at 2 - 0 late in the game when he saved Eric Dier's close range header.

Arsenal have won 11 home Premier League games in a row, their best run since winning 13 consecutively at Highbury between February and November 2005.

The Gunners move up to fifth on the log ahead of Liverpool while Spurs remain in third place.
