- The APC in Ekiti state is determined to defeat the ruling PDP in the coming 2018 governorship election
- The party said it has exhausted its patience and could not afford to wait to remove Governor Ayodele Fayose from power
- The party said it was putting its house in order and by the grace of God, it shall emerge victorious
The Ekiti state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has vowed to wrestle power from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
The party said it would use every legal and constitutional strategy to defeat the PDP in the coming election.
The party said it could not wait to unseat Governor Ayodele Fayose and stop him from his continued dominance of the state’s political space, This Day reports.
Speaking to the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Correspondents’ Chapel, who paid a visit to the APC’s state working committee members, the state acting chairman of the party, Kemi Olaleye, said the party is determined to win the coming election.
She said the party was putting its house in order to make this dream a reality.
Olaleye said: “We are determined to win the coming election. We will use every legal and constitutional means; adopt the right strategy to win the July 14 governorship election.
“We can’t wait in the fringe for another four years. One year is too long a year to be wasted in the life of a politician, let alone another four years.
“We know that 2018 will be challenging for the state working committee because our governorship aspirants will play and do their own things but we shall overcome.
“The essence of being elected is to manage our party, make it strong to be able to win election and that is what we are doing, and by the grace of God, we shall emerge victorious in the next election,” she said.
Olaleye further advised media professionals not to allow the reactions of politicians stop them from doing what is right, and just if it will bring the needed changes to the society.
The NUJ led by its chairman, Sam Nwaoko, assured the APC that media professionals in the state will continue to embrace the principle of fairness to all parties as the 2018 governorship poll draws closer.

He also advised the party to be receptive to criticisms from the media.
There were rumuors that Governor Fayose was making moves to dump the PDP for the APC ahead of the 2019 elections.
Gbenga Aluko who was a former Senate deputy chief whip between 1999 and 2003 alleged that Fayose had realised that the PDP cannot win elections in the country and is therefore making moves to defect to the ruling party
In an earlier report by NAIJ.com, Fayose denied the rumour.
Idowu Adelusi who is the chief press secretary to the governor said the allegation was false and that the governor will never join the PDP.
