Liverpool secured a hard fought 2 - 1 win over Leicester City in their match day 21 Premier League clash at Anfield on Saturday, December 30.

World's most expensive defender Virgil Van Dijk was at Anfield to watch his new side take on the 2015/2016 Premier League champions.

England striker Jamie Vardy put the visitors up in the third minute after capitalizing on some comical defending by Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren.

Liverpool probed and had numerous opportunities to score. Roberto Firmino tested Kasper Schmeicel twice with long range efforts while only a last ditch tackle by Daniel Amartey stopped Phil Coutinho from equalizing.

Saido Mane had the ball at the back of the next just before half time but he was adjuged to have been offside when Andrew Robertson's cross came in.

Mane had the ball again inside the net in the 66th minute after slotting in Salah's cross but again he was flagged offside.

Salah made it two in the 76th minute when he left Harry Maguire for dead to shoot past the goalkeeper. It was his 16th goal in the League.
