PDP chieftain defends ‘unity list’; says it is a ‘normal thing’ which is done around the world

- The PDP legal adviser, Agbo Emmanual, has defended the distribution of a ‘unity list’ at the party’s recently held national convention

- Emmanuel stated that the distribution of such lists by various political blocs takes place globally

- He further disclosed that the party was making attempts to reconcile aggrieved members, and stated that the South-west was carried along during the convention

Mr Agbo Emmanuel, the newly elected legal adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has defended the so-called ‘unity list’ which was distributed at the party’s December 9 national convention.

During an interview session with Channels TV, Emmanuel stated that the distribution of the list was a normal phenomenon; and that other lists were actually distributed during the convention.

NAIJ.com gathers that he also described the distribution of such lists as a global occurrence.

He stated: “In any election, there is always a lineup – it is not a Nigerian phenomenon, it is a global thing.

“Whenever you have an electoral college, there is always a lineup by the contestants; so in the last convention, there were a lot of lists generated by the different blocs that contested that election. So, that is not an issue.”

He further disclosed that the PDP was making efforts to reconcile aggrieved members.

He stated: “The chairman has given a command that we should go back, rebuild the party from the nooks and the crannies of this country, get every member of the party that was out, to be in, fully; ensure that there is harmony in every unit of the party.

“Many of those that were aggrieved are already back in the party as we speak. Our leaders are already talking to few of those members.

“We are only having Professor Adeniran to deal with; and as I said, leaders of the party are making advances to him and I’m sure that as a committed member of the party since 1998, Professor Adeniran will see reason to come and work with the party to ensure that we regain power in 2019 which is what he himself wanted to do.”

He further spoke on the place of the South-west in the party.

In his words: “The South-west region of the country was sufficiently carried along in the last convention.

“Four eminent sons of the South-west are members of the national working committee; so nobody can accuse the PDP of not having sufficient representatives from the South-west.”

Recall that NAIJ.com previously reported that a 'Unity List' was reported to be in circulation during the Peoples Democratic Party's national convention.

The list pitched Prince Uche Secondus as chairman, and Yemi Akinwonmi as deputy chairman of the party.

It was said to be the governors’ joker to checkmate the influence of ex-military President Ibrahim Babangida and former President Goodluck Jonathan on delegates.
