Robert Mugabe appears in public first time after he was removed from office, heads to Singapore

- Robert Mugabe takes a holiday trip to Singapore with his family days after he was sacked from office

- The trip also includes a medical checkup which has been at intervals in the same country

- This will be the former president's first public appearance after leaving office

Robert Mugabe, ex-president of Zimbabwe, took a holiday trip to Singapore with his wife and sons.

According to Africanews, this is Mugabe's first trip out of his country since leaving office.

Reports also stated that his travel would include medical checkup.

It will be recalled that Mugabe's last public appearance was when he presided over a graduation ceremony in the capital Harare, some day after he stepped down.

Ever since he removed from the seat of power, his wife has not been seen in public.

In a bid to eliminate criminals and corrupt persons around the former president, the Zimbabwe's army took over power. According to the army, such persons brought unbearable economic constraints on the people.

Before he stepped down, there was a weeklong presure on him by the parliament and opposing party. The pressure was also fuelled by massive, nationwide protests.

Reports have it that this is not the first time Mugabe will be travelling to Singapore for medical treatment. While in office, Mugabe took to a trip to the southeast Asian country to treat his eye cataract. However, opposition groups claimed that he went there for even a more serious sickness.

Meanwhlie, NAIJ.com reported that Zimbabwe’s former president Robert Mugabe cried and lamented 'betrayal by his lieutenants' when he agreed to step down last week under pressure from the military and his party after 37 years in power.

NAIJ.com gathered that President Emmerson Mnangagwa, a former Mugabe’s loyalist, was sworn in on Friday, November 24 and attention was focused on whether he would name a broad-based government or select figures from Mugabe’s era.

It was gathered that sources within Mugabe’s inner circle said the devout Catholic held a rosary as he told his close associates and a team of negotiators at his “Blue House” Harare mansion that he was resigning. He announced the decision as parliament heard a motion to impeach him.
