Sentenced for killing his girlfriend, Oscar Pistorius injured in prison brawl over phone

- Oscar Pistorius has been injured in a brawl at the prison were he is serving his jail term

- He sustained a bruise from the brawl

South African double amputee and Paralympic champion, Oscar Pistorius has been injured in a brawl at the prison, the department of of correctional service has said.

Pistorius, 31, was convicted of killing his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, is serving a 13-year jail term at the prison north of the capital, Pretoria.

The Guardian reports that Pistorius sustained a bruise after an altercation with another inmate on December 6, over the use of a public phone.

A spokesperson for the department, Singabakho Nxumalo, said: “Oscar Pistorius sustained a bruise following an alleged incident with another inmate over the use of a public phone in the special care unit where both offenders are detained at Attridgeville correctional centre."

Nxumalo said an official investigation had been launched on the incident.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that Pistorius had his sentence for killing his girlfriend increased from six years to 13 years.

The double amputee initially got six years for murdering Steenkamp.

However, the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) in Bloemfontein in a recent ruling increased the sentence.
