Another batch of Libya returnees was evacuated to Nigeria via the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, today, January 7.

The first batch of 540 stranded Nigerians is returning to the country after screening and confirmation of their nationality in Libya.

NAIJ.com gathered from a Nigerian Facebook user, Sumner Shagari Sambo, that a total number of 5,037 returnees from Libya are to be evacuated back to Nigeria in a process coordinated by a federal government delegation led by the ministry of foreign affairs, NEMA, NAPTIP and other agencies.

The federal government delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyema, Presidential Adviser, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, and NEMA DG, Mustapha Maihaja had earlier arrived Libya on Wednesday, January 3, to screen and confirm citizenship of the returnees.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that a federal government delegation arrived Libya to commence mass evacuation of Nigerians stranded in the North African country.

Sani Datti, the head of media and public relations, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) made this known in a statement on Thursday, January 4, in Abuja.

Datti said the delegation was led by Geoffrey Onyema, Nigeria’s minister of foreign affairs, accompanied by the director-general of NEMA, Engr Mustapha Maihaja and other heads of relevant agencies, The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

Datti said that the delegation arrived Tripoli, on Wednesday, January 3, ahead of the actual evacuation operation expected to commence on Friday, January 5, to transport stranded Nigerians with two indigenous carriers engaged for the exercises.
