Jonathan started and nearly completed Abuja-Kaduna rail project - Shehu Sani reacts, faults El-Rufai’s claims

- Senator Shehu Sani has faulted Governor El-Rufai's position on the Abuja-Kaduna modern railway line

- Sani credited Goodluck Jonathan's administration for starting and nearly completing the rail project

- He said if other administration started it apart from Jonathan's, then it was invisible

Shehu Sani, the senator representing Kaduna central senatorial district at the National Assembly has reacted to claims by Kaduna state governor that the Olusegun Obasanjo Administration started the just inaugurated Abuja-Kaduna modern rail system.

Sani faulted the claim of Governor El-Rufai, claiming that no such thing existed in the state.

Sani went further to credit Goodluck Jonathan's administration for starting and nearly completing the rail project.

He made his position on the mater known on twitter when he said:

"I was born in Kaduna, I live in Kad, I represent Kad. There was never any modern rail project in Kad or from Kad except the one started 'to near completion' under GEJ & now completed by the PMB Govt.If there was any under any other Govt perhaps it was invisible."

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that the governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-Rufai, debunked claims that Nigeria's rail project was revamped by the Goodluck Jonathan administration.

El-Rufai said the Abuja Light Rail was abandoned by the last two administrations before President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a tweet on Thursday, January 4, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce had said he hoped President Buhari will acknowledge Jonathan's effort in Nigeria's railway system.

Bruce tweeted: "I hope President @MBuhari remembers to say thank you to former President @GEJonathan for the train ride he enjoyed in Kaduna. Some of us haven’t forgotten that that achievement was ENTIRELY the handiwork of the Jonathan government. Nigeria should give honour to whom honour is due."

But reacting to the tweet, El-Rufai said: "Wrong Distinguished Senator! The Obasanjo administration which Jonathan was not part of, designed, raised the financing and started the EPC of the Lagos-Kano dual track-standard gauge rail system, and the Abuja Light Rail. Yar’Adua-Jonathan stalled both projects for two years!"
