A massive fire destroyed the official residence of the Imo deputy governor, Eze Madumere, located at the commissioners’ quarters in Owerri, the capital of the state on Thursday, January 19 with properties destroyed.
A report by Channels Television said the fire incident affected an apartment and damaged valuable properties.

The incident was confirmed by the chief press secretary to the deputy governor, Uche Onwuchekwa. He said the fire is suspected to have been triggered by a burning bush very close to the building.

According to Onwuchekwa, the fire later spread to the visitors’ waiting hall razing the entire building and some of buses parked on the premises as well as other valuable properties.
Apart from the confirmation by the chief press secretary, the report said there is no expert explanation about the remote cause of the fire.

The deputy governor said a thorough investigation would be conducted to determine the cause of the unfortunate incident.

The report said that the building was still in flame at the time of its report adding that all the belongings of the inhabitants were razed in the fire that started at 4am while its occupants were still asleep.
