- Arsene Wenger has stated that Robin Van Persie's move to Manchester United in 2012 hurt him

- The Frenchman is now also on the verge of losing another player Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has explained that Alexis Sanchez's exit at the Emirates Stadium won't be painful like that of Robin Van Persie.

Dutchman Robin Van Persie left Arsenal in 2012 for a move to Manchester United and Chilean striker Alexis Sanchez is also on the verge of joining the Red Devils.

The former Barcelona man has agreed personal terms with Manchester United, and an official announcement over his move to Old Trafford could be made soon.

Wenger feels as though Arsenal's fans have made peace with Sanchez's impending defection and that it won't hurt like Van Persie's £24 million move six years ago.

“We took Van Persie when he played in the reserve team at Feyenoord.

"We made a long work with him. When you got him there and later left us which is the most painful.” the Frenchman was quoted by Mirror.

Robin Van Persie left the Gunners in 2012 and went on to win the Premier League title with Manchester United the following year.

Earlier, NAIJ.com had reported how Chilean striker Alexis Sanchez agreed a four-and-a-half-year contract worth £14 million after tax to join Manchester United from rivals Arsenal.

The former Barcelona man is now waiting to find out if Henrikh Mkhitaryan will agree a switch in the other direction to Arsenal which would trigger his move to Old Trafford.

Sanchez was initially linked with a move to current Premier League leaders Manchester City, but the Citizens were unable to meet his demand.
