Chris Mustapha Nwaokobia Jnr, the director-general of the Change Ambassadors of Nigeria, says he left the APC because of alleged failed promises

- Nwaokobia Jnr, whose organisation played a major role in the success of the APC in 2015, says he is not happy with the party's fight against corruption

- He argues that the country's security situation is one of the reasons he left the APC

The director-general of the Change Ambassadors of Nigeria (CAN), Professor Chris Mustapha Nwaokobia Jnr, has revealed that he left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), because of some policy inconsistencies.

Nwaokobia Jnr, whose organisation played a major role in the emergence of the APC in the 2015 presidential election, also said the party made promises that are yet to be fulfilled about three years after.

Speaking with NAIJ.com, Prof Nwaokobia Jnr said he decided to leave the APC on December 16, 2017. He however did not state if he had pitched tents with any particular party.

Giving reasons for his action, he said: “One is the promise to address the restructuring of our country. This was one of the campaign promises that we made. We haven’t done anything in that light.

“Second is the promise that we would fight corruption and the less than inspiring fight against it. Money is recovered but nobody is told who owns the funds.

“This is not done in any part of the world. It is a sham. You cannot recover money and you are unable to say this property belongs to this person.

“So for the first time in our country, monies are recovered and forfeited without known owners. And again, the battle seems to be the court order to name the sources behind the funds that were recovered.

“A court order from the Federal High Court in Lagos gave that judgement and seven months after, it has not been obeyed.

“The issue with the fight against insurgency which we thought would be our strongest one. It has been so boldly asserted that Boko Haram has been decimated but even now, we still hear of its operations. They are still killing people.

“We have marauding herdsmen everywhere killing and maiming. They have killed in the last two years more than Boko Haram killed in three years. They are still killing and there is no strong expression,” he said.

He questioned why the military would be sent after some agitating groups in the country while the police would be drafted to handle the herdsmen crisis.

NAIJ.com also reported how former governor of Jigawa state and presidential hopeful of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sule Lamido, has appealed to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, a chieftain of the All Progressives Party (APC) to defect to the opposition party ahead of 2019.

Lamido, who spoke at the yearly Daily Trust Newspapers dialogue held in Abuja, said the APC no longer deservesTinubu’s usefulness and importance.

Daily Independent reported that the former governor warned that Nigeria’s democracy would be tested in 2019 mainly if President Muhammadu Buhari will be willing to accept defeat when he loses the election.

However, NAIJ.com earlier reported how President Muhammadu Buhari was recently lauded for his achievements in office over the past two years by former president Olusegun Obasanjo.

Obasanjo made his comments on Thursday, September 14, while speaking on CNN’s global affairs interview programme, Amanpour, which is hosted by its Chief International Correspondent, Christiane Amanpour.

Efforts to reach Bolaji Abdullahi, the spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were not successful at the time of this report.
