- The Chelsea star man was instrumental in the Blues title winning campaign of 2016/17 season

- The Blues forward retains the award from City's play maker who won it two times in a row

Chelsea star player Eden Hazard was named the Best Belgian player in a Foreign League for 2017 ahead of Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne and Napoli’s Dries Mertens.

Hazard was 11 votes better than De Bruyne with 326 points, while Mertens had 207 votes, as Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku finished fourth.

City’s star man, De Bruyne had won the award the past two years and the play maker topped the second round of voting, after Napoli’s forward, Mertens won the first round.

However, it was not enough to upstage Hazard who had the most points overall for his maiden honour in his home country.

"My first prize in Belgium and certainly not my last one," Hazard said.

Hazard, however, admitted he would have voted for Napoli talisman Mertens

"What a good year he had. With a lot of goals too. I go for him, because he also played in a position that was not actually his. He was not an attacker," the former Lille star added.

Hazard, who was unable to attend due to commitments with Nike, returned to his best form in 2017, having helped Chelsea to the Premier League title last season.

This term, Hazard has been Chelsea’s best player scoring nine goals and tallied two assists for fourth-placed Chelsea.

His last goal for the Blues was his brilliant individual effort in the 4-1 loss to Watford at Vicarage Road.
