Chelsea set to place a heavy clause on star player's contract to keep Spanish club away

- Chelsea are ready to hold new contract talks with Thiabut Courtois to keep Real Madrid away

- The London club are set to put a clause in the deal that will keep their number one shot-stopper at Stamford Bridge for a long time

- Courtois has in recent weeks expressed his desire to play at the Santiago Bernabeu in the future

Chelsea are doing all they can to keep their number one shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois as the Belgian is set to sign a deal with the Blues, Spanish football expert Guillem Balague said.

Courtois recently revealed that he has the desire to play for Real Madrid in the future but Chelsea are set to add a clause to contract when signing a new deal in the coming weeks.

“He talked about his desire to renew with Chelsea (possibly adding a future transfer clause to Real Madrid?) but that has been conveniently ignored,”

“It could easily have been interpreted as a mid-season review.

“Only... Thibaut is intelligent, well read, knows what he wants (he doesn't hide that it's Real Madrid), and is aware that he is not the only candidate (David De Gea being the other).

“And he needed to take that step that they usually demand at the Santiago Bernabeu before making a signing.” Balague wrote on his blog for Spanish newspaper.

Courtois is not the only goalkeeper Madrid have their eye on but since Iker Casillas' departure in 2015, Manchester United stopper David De Gea has also been heavily linked with a return to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Eden Hazard is also highly favoured to move to the Spanish capital in the summer as the Spanish giant have reportedly been closing in on Chelsea’s best player at the moment.

Courtois was in goal in the two matches Chelsea conceded seven goals as the Blues have been heavily criticized for defeats to Bournemouth and Watford respectively in their last two league matches.
