Manchester United striker Alexis Sanchez has revealed that current Premier League champions Chelsea have once made Barcelona star Lionel Messi cry.

The Chilean forward explained that Lionel Messi was unable to control himself in 2012 when Barcelona lost to Chelsea in the Champions League semi final.

With a 1-0 lead from the first-leg, Chelsea produced one of the great defensive displays in the second-leg in Barcelona.

After seeing ex captain John Terry sent off early in the game, the Blues managed to draw 2-2 at the Nou Camp with Fernando Torres scoring late in the game for Chelsea.

The Premier League side however went on to win the 2012 UEFA Champions League beaten Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany.

Sanchez who started that match for Barcelona has revealed how hurt his former team-mate was in the wake of the defeat and feels it shows the demands players place on themselves at the highest level of the game.

"I think football saves many people, It can give you a life of luxury, but people don't see all the effort that goes in behind the scenes.

"That might mean not seeing your family, or missing your mother's birthday, many players are so focused that they miss the birth of their children.

"You might cry during a game if you lose a final. That's all part of football. In the Barcelona dressing room after the Chelsea game, I saw Leo cry. That's because players demand so much from themselves. People don't see that,'' Sanchez told Sky Sports.

Meanwhile, Messi will have a chance for revenge later this month with Chelsea and Barcelona coming face-to-face for the first time since that memorable semi-final. They meet in the Round of 16 with Chelsea hosting the first-leg on 20 February.
