Criminal herdsmen meet waterloo at hands of troops after raiding village; Army passes urgent message to citizens

- The Nigerian army has urged residents of Adamawa state to report any sightings of fleeing herdsmen taking refuge in their communities

- The directive came following the arrest of criminal herdsmen who raided and burned down a village in the state

- The troops moved in following a distress call from the village; and various weapons were recovered from the attackers

Nigerian army troops of the 101 Special Forces Battalion deployed in Numan, Adamawa state who are currently taking part in the Excercise Ayem Akpatuma, recovered a large number of weapons from criminal herdsmen in Garigiji village of the state on Wednesday, February 28.

According to Vanguard, the development was made public by the director of army public relations, Brigadier General J.T.E Chukwu.

NAIJ.com gathers that Chukwu stated that the weapons were recovered during a thorough cordon-and-search operation in the area.

The battalion had response to a distress call on Tuesday, February 27, that Garigiji village was under attack from herdsmen who then proceeded to set the village ablaze.

Six of the criminals were arrested as they attempted to flee.

Chukwu stated: “To consolidate the success of the exercise, the determined troops embarked on a fighting patrol to the village and conducted a thorough cordon-and-search which led to the recovery of the weapons.”

The army spokesman disclosed that the weapons recovered include four AK-47 assault rifles, seven magazines of AK-47 rifle, 120 rounds of 7.62mm special, seven cutlasses, three spears and two bows and arrow.

He continued: “The Nigerian army therefore solicits for law abiding citizens to look out for fleeing herdsmen seeking for refuge in their communities as they are on the run; and report promptly to the nearest military or security agency.”

In a related development, NAIJ.com previously reported that the Nigerian army on Operation Cat Race have continued to make significant success in their quest to maintain peace and order between farmers and herdsmen in the affected region.

The army in a statement by Colonel Aliyu Yusuf said it recovered a locally made pistol with live cartridge.

It also said it was able to prevent a clash between farmers and herdsmen in Nasarawa while also arresting a herdsman with cutlass and bullet proof vest.
