Senator Rafiu Ibrahim raised the point of order on the floor of the upper chamber, saying the Senate should consider the screening of two deputy governors as members of the MPC to enable the monetary policy committee continue to direct the affairs of the apex bank.
Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had written to the Senate on Thursday, Ocotber 11, asking the upper legislative chamber to confirm Aishah Ahmad as deputy governor of the CBN.
The confirmation was stalled as the lawmakers had resolved to suspend further consideration of appointments made by Buhari to protest against the retention of Ibrahim Magu as the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
However, the Senate changed its mind on Tuesday, March 13, and approved that the nominees for the positions of deputy governor of the CBN and members of the Monetary Policy Committee be screened for confirmation.
