President Muhammadu Buhari has said his administration is working hard to ensure that Nigerian youth become gainfully employed.

The president said he is trying "very hard" to provide jobs for the nation's youths, Daily Trust reports.

He said his administration is investing heavily in agriculture to ensure that many Nigerians inculcate the habit of farming as a means of surviving.

Speaking while receiving the foreign minister of Tunisia, Boukekri Rmilli, the president represented by his senior special assistant on media and publicity, Garba Shehu, promised that his administration would increase its support for agriculture as a mechanism for jobs creation.

Shehu said: “Following the uncertainty in the oil market and the huge unemployment situation in the country, we chose to put our fate in agriculture. I am glad that our young people are accepting agriculture instead of waiting for white-collar jobs.

They are out there sweating it out in the sun, making a living. Agriculture is the way to go, even when we are realising this almost belatedly,” he said.

He also said the present administration recognises the progress Tunisia has made in agriculture, tourism and medical health.

He said shortly, from now, the Nigerian government would raise a team to visit that country to identify sectors in which the two countries can work together.

Commending the president for his efforts, in revamping the relationship between Nigeria and Tunisia Rmilli, who is also the leader of the delegation of businessmen said his country is anxious to grow trade relationships with Nigeria.

He said its is heartwarming that a large number of local business owners turned up for the Nigeria - Tunisia Business Forum on Monday, March 12, in Abuja.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that the presidency has unveiled its plan to employ 208,000 youths to curb the clashes in the Niger Delta region.

The spokesperson to the vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, said the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has established job placement centres for the youth from the region.

Laolu Akande said to reduce unemployment, the placement centres are expected to engage the youths and match them with existing vacancies and available skills within the region.
