Kogi government places N5million bounty on suspected herdsmen who killed traditional leader, others

- Kogi government has placed N5million bounty on suspected herdsmen who recently attacked two villages

- The bandits reportedly murdered the traditional leader of Agbenema, a small town in the state

Kogi state government has confirmed that three persons died and several were injured in fresh attacks by suspected bandits on the people of Ojuwo Ajamàgbe and Agbenema in Dekina and Omala local government areas of the state.

The government offered N5million bounty anyone willing to provide useful information that can lead to the arrest of the bandits who murdered about threee persons including the traditional ruler of Agbenema, Musa Edibo.

Premium Times reports that the government's statement, which was signed by the Director General of media and publicity to the governor, Kingsley Fanwo, confirmed that the attack on the villages were done by mercinaries reportedly working for herdsmen in the area.

The statement read: “On a happier note and contrary to trending reports by all sections of the media, the wife of the murdered traditional chief was neither injured nor killed. Though advanced in age and battling age-related ailments, she interacted extensively with our officials who paid a condolence visit to the community today.

“Attackers at Agbenema on the afternoon of Monday, 19th March, 2018 appear to be the same group which attacked Ojuwo Ajamàgbe, near Oganenigu in Dekina local government area five days earlier.

“Kogi state government and the security services are sparing neither expense nor effort to track down these murderers and ensure justice is served.

“We once again reiterate our total commitment as a government to the security of lives and properties in the state, protection extends to all peaceful and law-abiding citizens and residents, irrespective of religion or tribe.

“The public is therefore urged to call or send messages in this regard to 0705 889 0048."

Recall that NAIJ.com earlier reported that the Kogi state commissioner of police, Ali Janga, said contrary to report, no killings took place in some communities within the state.

Natives of the communities who narrated the event told journalists that suspected herdsmen set the houses ablaze and opened fire on the fleeing inhabitants, allegedly cutting victims’ throats and their vital parts.

The reports also suggests that the administrator of Omala local government, Ibrahim Aboh, was lucky to have escaped by the whiskers.
