- Pep Guardiola set to rival Jose Mourinho for the signature of Bayern Munich's Jerome Boateng
- The 29-year-old defender has a running contract with the Bundesliga outfit until the summer of 2021
- Meanwhile, the 2014 World Cup winning player can also play in the right-back position aside his original center-defence role
Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola is reportedly planning a surprise move for Bayern Munich defender, Jerome Boateng this summer.
The 47-year-old Spaniard has already won the Carabao Cup for the Citizens this season and he is just few games away from being crowned the champions of English League.
However, the former Barcelona coach is preparing an offer in the range of £50 million for the Germany international, but he will face stern competition from Manchester United, who are also said to be interested in signing the same player.

Boateng was signed by the Bavarians seven years ago from the same team that are set to sign him, and should the deal pull through at the end of the day, he will be reuniting with his former manager, Guardiola, who managed Bayern for three years.
The former Bayern Munich tactician has always admired the 29-year-old even after quitting the Allianz Arena just two seasons ago.
Meanwhile, the World Cup winner would fortify Pep’s defence despite how strong his current squad is in the English topflight.
Jose Mourinho is also interested in Boateng as they look to reinforce their defence ahead of the coming league season, but City are said to be at advantage to land the player.
Top Spanish League giants, Real Madrid and Barcelona might also join the race if his current club puts the German in the market at the end of the season.

Pep and Boateng won three Bundesliga titles during their time together at Bayern, and this might give the coach an edge over others, who are contenders in the race.
He also has the expertise to be fielded in the right-back position, but his major role remains the central defence – where he has established himself as one of the finest defenders in Europe.
Having left City in 2011 to boost his Germany chances with regular football at Bayern, he won the FIFA World Cup title barely three years after in Brazil in 2014.
The Berlin-born star suffered injury hell two seasons ago with a thigh problem but has returned this season to play regularly – but sources close to the player expect him to move this summer.
However, his current contract with Bayern Munich runs out in the summer of 2021.
