Premier League champions Chelsea have made a £52 million to sign Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi at the end of the season.

The 25-year-old joined the Italian Serie A outfit, and he’s still contracted to the club until the summer of 2021, meanwhile the Argentinean international is attracting attention from top European clubs following his performance for his present club.

According AS, a Spanish newspaper, the Blues have contacted the representatives of the striker, who has recorded 22 goals in 24 topflight games in Italy.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid are also reportedly tracking the player as a possible replacement for the likes of Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema, who are likely to be booted out of the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

Reports claim that they are stalling over an offer for the play with the hope that they can sign Brazil star, Neymar from Paris Saint Germain after this season wraps up in a couple of months’ time.

However, the Sun can confirm that Icardi’s agent, Wanda Nara, who doubles as his wife, has received the massive proposal, but the deal will be subjected to the player deciding where to commit his future, pinpointing this summer as the crucial stage.

While reports filtering the media space in Italy claim the former Champions League winner will reject Chelsea’s offer, which in turn could start a bidding war across Europe.

Nara recently revealed she was confident Icardi will renew his current contract at the San Siro, although in today’s climate that is not a guarantee the player will therefore be staying put.

She told Gazzetta dello Sport: “We’re all very relaxed. We’re optimistic about his renewal. When I bump into the sporting director we laugh. Sometimes I joke that Mauro’s value increases with each day that passes, but there’s serenity in the air, no tension.

“[Release clause?] When you renew a contract you do it to improve the conditions that are already there. But we haven’t thought about the conditions or the figures yet.”

Icardi joined Inter from Sampdoria in 2013, and he has since then made 149 appearances in all competition – with 93 goals to his credit.

He scored four out of his side’s 5-0 win over his former side, Sampdoria in the Italian Serie A encounter over the weekend.
