APC chieftain secures release of 40 young prison inmates in Adamawa state

- A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured the release of young indigent inmates in prison

- Alhaji Musa Halilu Ahmed, the Dujima of Adamawa the 1st, came to the rescue of the inmates at the Yola prison, Adamawa state

- The inmates had been unable to pay fines imposed on them by courts for minor offences committed

APC chieftain, Alhaji Musa Halilu Ahmed, the Dujima of Adamawa the 1st, on Saturday, June 30, secured the release of 40 indigent inmates at the Yola Prison, Adamawa state.

The inmates made up of young boys between the ages of 18 and 25 had been unable to pay fines imposed on them by courts for minor offences committed.

The move is in line with the Federal Government's recent commitment to embar on prison reforms and decongestion across the country.

Alhaji Musa stated that the act was done to help the inmates reconnect back to their family as well as support the government's effort of decongesting the prison of people who were jailed for minor offences committed.

He pointed out that congestion of prisons if not done to support the government, will hamper the quality of justice delivery system and also be detrimental to the human rights of inmates

He also used the occasion to admonish the released inmate to turn a new leaf and go about their daily life in a law-abiding manner.

The Deputy Comptroller in charge of the prison, Mr Galadima Chika Tsoro lauded the gesture of the APC chieftain and expressed appreciation of the prison authorities to Alhaji Musa and called on highly placed individuals in the state to emulate him.

Similarly, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano recently secured the release of 317 inmates from prisons across the state.

Ganduje who witnessed the release of some of the inmates from the Kano Central Prison, Kurmawa and Goron Dutse Prison on Friday, June 15, said he visited the inmates in his efforts to attend to those that needed urgent attention.
