PDP Presidential aspirant faults FG for dumping 2004 National Political Reform Conference

- The 2004 National Political Reform Conference is still a major referencing point for Nigeria's politics

- Frontline presidential aspirant, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), has given his thoughts on the conference

- The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aspirant is of the opinion that the report of the conference would have assisted the Federal Government

Frontline PDP presidential aspirant, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), has berated the Federal Government for discarding the report of the 2004 National Political Reform Conference.

Turaki lamented the action of the government while addressing Ebonyi state PDP executive committee and other party bigwigs and delegates to the party's national convention in Abakaliki on Thursday, June 28.

Turaki who was a member of the conference noted that the report would have assisted the government in dealing with the issues of devolution of power, resource control, restructuring and other issues that have triggered injustice, tension and violence across the country.

He lamented the betrayal of the people's trust by the present All Progressives Congress (APC) government, which he opined has inflicted poverty, economic hardship, insecurity, disunity, injustice, despotic and insensitive leadership on the people, adding that Nigerians have now entered a 'one chance vehicle.'

He restated his commitment to addressing the issue of creating an additional state in the southeast, adopting a more functional strategy to tackle insecurity and economic downturn, and also rebuilding the trust and confidence of the people in themselves and in the leadership.

He stated that the PDP needs to present a standard bearer who has integrity, vision, well-educated and knowledgeable, and who is a unifier and dynamic enough to cope better with the burden of leadership than the present leadership in the country.

He however warned that wresting power from the APC in 2019 will not be a 'tea party' as its members lack democratic credentials.

Responding, the chairman, Ebonyi state PDP, Barrister Onyeka Nwabonyi and the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Ogbonnaya Nwifuru who represented the governor, assured Turaki that they will support an aspirant who possess the qualities to beat the APC candidate at the 2019 general elections and meet the aspirations of Nigerians.

Meanwhile, Turaki has again condemned what he described as the mindless killings across the country recently.

He made the comment while delivering a paper as guest speaker at the sixth memorial lecture and undergraduate scholarship awards in honour of the late Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Professor Celestine Onwuliri, at Ahazu Mbaise, Imo state.

He stated that the problems currently facing the country will continue to arise unless the government changed its discriminatory attitude in the treatment of those killing fellow citizens.
