Argentina FA have offered their coach Jorge Sampaoli the chance to save his job by managing the country's U20 national team.

La Albiceleste were dumped out of this year's World Cup by France in the round of 16 encounter after losing 4-3 to the French team.

Having struggled to progress out of their group stage with just four points in three matches at the early stages of the championship.

However, with the FA planning to decide over the future of the 58-year-old at the helm of affairs of their national team, the tactician has been given a life line to prove his worth.

Sampaoli's assist Sebastian Beccacece was due to lead the whizkids in their COTIF L'Alcudia campaign in Valencia.

But his decision to leave his post and take over Defensa y Justicia left the former manager as the only option to do the job.

The under-fire manager has been accused of failing to get the best out of a side that has Lionel Messi, but, after a meeting with Argentinian FA president Claudio Tapia and vice-president Daniel Angelici yesterday, he has been given more time.

In their statement as quoted by the Sun, AFA stated: "In the next executive committee meeting, which is planned for the end of July, the members will make a joint evaluation about Sampaoli's work and future."

The COTIF L'Alcudia begins on July 28 and runs until August 7, with Sampaoli likely to survive for the duration.

But his position is far from secure amid reports he lost the Argentinian dressing room and allowed senior players to pick the team.
